Going Above and Beyond: FUD Employees Have Impact Locally and Around the World
First Utility District Employees are exceptionally involved within their community. We sponsor a variety of fundraising events throughout the year, including the KARM Dragon Boat Race, a project for the Sertoma Center, working with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and assisting in Christmas activities at the Helen Ross McNabb Center.
Employees of First Utility District are strong supporters of the Knox Area Rescue Ministries (KARM). Since 2011, we have assembled a rowing team named “Team Fuddy Duddies” for the KARM Dragon Boat Festival. This event is one of KARM’s largest annual fundraisers. FUD Employees team up for KARM again during the holidays in order to provide Christmas gifts to children in the shelter. We support this ministry, as well as donating gifts to the children of the Helen Ross McNabb Center.
Another unique venture is Project Ulpan, a community development in Guatemala that includes the establishment of a public water supply. Several First Utility District employees have made trips to the Ulpan Valley to build water distribution systems. A member of the First Utility District team spent a year living in Guatemala to aid in this effort. Similar projects are being evaluated in Haiti and within our own Appalachian region.
